Sandy Creek High School

Sandy Creek High School or SCHS is located in Tyrone, Georgia, United States.

Sandy Creek serves Tyrone, northern Fayetteville, and small northern portions of Fairburn and Peachtree City. It opened in 1991 with approximatley 400 students in order to relieve overcrowding at Fayette County High School and McIntosh High School.

Today, the school has approximately 1,500 students enrolled in grades 9-12 and is accredited by the Southern Association of High Schools and Colleges. Sandy Creek is noted for its high minority enrollment (55% White, 40% Black, 3% Hispanic, and 2% Asian or Native American) in the historically white predominant Fayette County School System. Despite limited tensions in the school's early years, it has long maintained a history of peaceful race relations, compared to those of other schools with similar racial compositions.

In 2004 it was a Georgia School of Excellence, and is a Blue Ribbon School. They have one the highest SAT averages in the state at about 1040 out of 1600. The class of 2007 scored the highest scores in Fayette County and also above other schools on the Georgia High School Graduation Writing Test.

The Sandy Creek mascot is the Patriot. In recent years, Sandy Creek has become known for its successful sports programs with many alumni having received Division I athletic scholarships, with several even playing professionally. 2000 State Cheerleading Champions, 2004-2005 Football Region Champions, 1997 & 2005 Boys Basketball Semi-Finalist, and Multiple State Track Championships

In 2003 and 2004 the Patriot Football Program boasted two perfect 10-0 regular season records and trips to the AAAA State Playoffs, and 24 straight regular season victories. Rodney Walker, who in one of the most successful coaches in Georgia history with over 250 wins retired in 2005 and his son has took over in his place. NFL players include Kedric Goldston (University of Georgia/Washington Redskins), J.R. Lemon (Stanford University/Oakland Raiders), Jabari Holloway (Notre Dame/New England Patriots/Houston Texans). Other players include Georgia Tech wide reciever Calvin Johnson, who was the ACC Rookie of the Year in 2005 and was named a preseason ACC All-American in 2006.

The Sandy Creek basketball team made it the Final Four in 1997 and 2005. D-I basketball players include John Beckett (Georgia State University).

Brent Brewer was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers with the 60th pick of the 2006 MLB Draft. D-I baseball players include Jay Fields (Georgia State University).
