Sandwip

Sandwip (Bengali: সন্দ্বীপ) is an island along the south eastern coast of Bangladesh. It is situated at the estuary of the Meghna River on the Bay of Bengal. It is separated from the Chittagong coast by the Sandwip channel.It has a population of nearly 400,000.There are 15 unions in Sandwip.

The Portuguese traders and pirates led by Domingo Carvalho and Manuel de Mattos conquered Sandwip in 1602. However, they were later expelled by the Mughal army.

Being an Island, people here trend to be seeking more opportunities outside(Chittagong,Dhaka and sometimes other countries) the Island.In general people are more outgoing than any other part of the country.
