Sands Point is a village located at the northernmost tip of the Cow Neck Peninsula on the North Shore of Long Island in Nassau County, New York. As of the United States 2000 Census, the village population was 2,786.

The Incorporated Village of Sands Point is in the Town of North Hempstead.

Sands Point was referred as "East Egg," which was the home of F. Scott Fitzgerald, author of The Great Gatsby. The buchanans lives on the western part of Sands Point on Cedar Lane. Fitzgeralds mansion is on hoffstots Lane. His estate is currently forsale for $28,000,000. East Egg was considered richer than West Egg (Great Neck/ Kings Point) because Sands Point was "old Money" Great Neck, NY Kings Point, NY Sands Point is made up of turn on the century mansions and large sprawling 1960's ranches. Sands Point is the most expensive town in New York state.

There are not any commercial establisments in Sands Point. The village uses Port Washinton's Library, Firehouse, Water and School District. Sands Point is only 25 minutes away from Manhattan, There are no street lights, no curbs, and no rain water basins.Port Washington, NY

The village was incorporated in 1910. In 1917 the village absorbed the communities of Barkers Point and Motts Point. It was originally owned by 3 families, the Sands, Vanderbilts and Cornwells.

Sands Point is located at 40°50′55″N, 73°42′42″W (40.848595, -73.711724)GR1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 14.6 km² (5.6 mi²). 11.0 km² (4.2 mi²) of it is land and 3.6 km² (1.4 mi²) of it (24.56%) is water.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 2,786 people, 878 households, and 783 families residing in the village. The population density was 253.7/km² (657.5/mi²). There were 902 housing units at an average density of 82.1/km² (212.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the village was 88.33% White, 1.62% African American, 8.26% Asian, 1.26% from other races, and 0.54% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.91% of the population.

There were 878 households out of which 40.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 82.3% were married couples living together, 4.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 10.8% were non-families. 8.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 4.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.12 and the average family size was 3.22.

In the village the population was spread out with 27.3% under the age of 18, 4.5% from 18 to 24, 22.9% from 25 to 44, 29.7% from 45 to 64, and 15.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 92.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.5 males.

The median income for a household in the village was in excess of $100,000, as is the median income for a family. Males had a median income of over $70,000 versus $60,938 for females. The per capita income for the village was $95,647. About 2.1% of families and 3.1% of the population were below the poverty line, including 2.2% of those under age 18 and 3.6% of those age 65 or over.
