A sanddab is an edible flatfish of the genus Citharichthys. Like other flatfish, they have both eyes on the same side of the head, most often on the left side.
There are multiple species of sanddab, though the commonest by far is the Pacific sanddab, Citharichthys sordidus. They are a dull light-brown, and are mottled with brown or black; sometimes yellow or orange.
