The hotel was built originally in 1964 with the name of Dupont Plaza Hotel and it was one of the main lodging spots in El Condado, Puerto Rico. At the time, it was famous for its olympic-sized swimming pool. Also, it was the venue for lots of sports activities like boxing.

In 1986, the hotel was the site of a tragic fire caused by some disgruntled emloyees in the middle of a labor/salary dispute. However, after some years, Marriott International bought the hotel. The hotel was repaired and renovated and now operates under the name of San Juan Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino.

The hotel is currently one of the top lodging spots in the area.
