The current mayor of San José is Ron Gonzales and the current interim City Manager is Les White, who served as City Manager for the City of San José and was brought back in 2006 after former City Manager, Del Borgsdorf retired to Florida. San José City Council is a council-manager government

[edit] 2006 Elections
Councilmember Chuck Reed defeated Vice Mayor Cindy Chavez in the November general election and is scheduled to assume the position as Mayor in January 2007. Sam Liccardo will replace Vice Mayor Cindy Chavez whose term ends December 31, 2006. Councilmember Ken Yeager defeated Council colleague Linda J. LeZotte to replace Santa Clara County Board of Supervisor and Assemblymember-elect Jim Beall who was elected to the California State Assembly in November 2006. Steve Tedesco and Pierluigi Oliverio face off in a run-off election to replace Councilmember Yeager.
[edit] Council District 6 Vacancy
Due to the early resignation of Councilmember Ken Yeager who was elected to the County Board of Supervisors, District 6 will be maintained by the Mayor's Office & 2 Staff Aides who worked under Ken Yeager. Megan Doyle who is Acting Chief of Staff & Tony Filice who is a Council Assistant will stay with District 6 until March 2007, then they will move on to work with Supervisor Yeager.
The City Council approved a run-off election in March 2007 to replace Mayor-elect Chuck Reed who represents City Council District 4 and County Supervisor-elect Ken Yeager.

At the state level, San Jose is represented in the California State Assembly by the 21st, 22nd, 23rd, 24th, and 28th Assembly districts [1] . As of 2006, those Assembly members are Ira Ruskin, Sally J. Lieber, Joe Coto, Rebecca Cohn, and Simon Salinas, respectively; all Assembly Members are from the Democratic Party.[2] San Jose residents are represented in the California State Senate by the 10th, 11th, 13th, and 15th Senate districts. The State Senators are Liz Figueroa, Joseph S. Simitian, Elaine Alquist, and Abel Maldonado. Maldonado is a member of the Republican Party, the other three senators are Democrats. [3]
