San Gabriel Valley Transit Authority

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The San Gabriel Valley Transit Authority was a very small bus transit provider in Los Angeles County, California providing transport services to seniors and the disabled in the cities of Monrovia and Sierra Madre. It was claimed this was done via Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) with the two cities. Its equipment consisted primarily of a handful of lift-equipped coaches and its paid staff included less than a dozen coach operators.

[edit] Recent developments

The SGVTA was notable in recent news for having had a disproportionately large transit police force about twenty strong, consisting primarily of volunteer commissioners and auxiliaries. It is presently unknown whether there were ever any fully qualified peace officers on the force, but two members of the force did appear at the scene of a car accident in Malibu (some distance outside the Authority's service area) early in 2006 involving the total loss of a stolen Ferrari.

As of July 18th, 2006, the SGVTA has stopped its services. Monrovia operated continual (via contract) its own separate dial-a-ride system, and disputes any MOU ever existed with SGVTA. It is presently unknown whether its service commitments in Sierra Madre have been acquired by another transit entity such as the MTA or have been abandoned altogether.
