I move pornographic images under the fold because:
- The image are explicit and will offend the sensbilities of a significant number of English speakers.
- A person who hits "random page" or a link may come to the page without the expectation of seeing a pornographic image
- People who are offended by explicit images may be offended to the point that they will look at all of Wikipedia in a negative light.
- A picture like this violates the boundaries of a significant number of English speakers.
- Anyone is free to scroll the page down to see the pornographic image in question.
In the somewhat unusual case of there being an image, but not enough text to move the image under the fold, I will make the image a linked instead of an inlined image. Again, anyone is free to hit the link in question.
Now, when someone feels differently about pornographic images, here is how I handle the resulting editing dispute. While I usually follow Wikipedia:One-revert rule, I do not do so for pornographic images:
- I will keep the image but move it under the fold
- If someone reverts my edit and moves the image above the fold, I will completely remove the image from the page
- This usually results in an edit war
- I am willing to end said edit war when the other party is willing to have the image in question under the fold
- If someone else completely removes the image, I will not revert the image. I don't want pornographic images in the Wikipedia at all; I only accept "under the fold" as a compromise.
- I will not remove drawings. Only photographs.
Did I mention that Jimbo, the founder of Wikipedia, also opposes pornographic images in the Wikipedia.
