The Franz Beckenbauer conspiracy is an organised global coalition by many defensive footballers, but especially centre backs, to resemble Franz Beckenbauer, in adoration of der Kaiser, and in the hope that their master-sweeper-like attributes will result in increased playing ability. Such changes made to adulate Beckenbauer may include, but are not limited to, facial plastic surgery, acquiring a German accent, playing for Bayern Munich, and reformatting their hair in a perm. The phenomenon has been observed in leagues all over the world, but several clusters of conspirators are focused on the English Premiership and the German Bundesliga.
