Samurai was one of the games for the Phillips Magnavox Odyssey², a console from the 1970's in the 8-bit home video game console era. The game is based upon the ancient strategy game of Go, originally played in China by the nobility. Even though at first Samurai may seem easier to learn, it contains a lot of strategy and can be very addictive. The game also contains two player mode, gameplay against the computer, as well as a digital timing handicap which allows newcomers to have a better chance in beating grandmaster players in the game. Similar to other Videopac games, the games did not do well compared to Atari but did manage to sell a lot of units in Europe and Brazil.

[edit] Gameplay

As Samurai was based upon the game Go, many of the game mechanics are similar in that each opponent tries to take each other's territory using one's pieces to surround the opponent's pieces. The game's graphics include a black background, red dots for one player's pieces, and green dot for the other player's. Samurai also allows two player gameplay along with single player against the computer.
