Samuel Stayman

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Samuel Stayman (1909 - 1993) was a U.S. bridge player. He was the eponym of the Stayman convention. The convention was invented by Stayman's regular partner, George Rapee, but was popularized by Stayman in an article that he wrote in Bridge World magazine in the late 1940s. Stayman also invented the Namyats convention, also named after him, but spelled backwards.

Stayman has won three Bermuda Bowls (1950, 1951, and 1953) and numerous North American Bridge Championships.
