Samuel Murdoch

Captain Samuel Murdoch (April 04, 1843 - March 6, 1917) was a master mariner, and father of William McMaster Murdoch, First Officer of the RMS Titanic. The Murdochs were a long and notable line of Scottish seafarers who sailed the world's oceans as early as the 19th century.
Murdoch sailed with his father, Captain James Murdoch, for a number of years in the sloop Freedom, and afterwards became one of the most successful ship commanders of the Mercantile Marine.
Murdoch married Jeannie Muirhead, they had seven children. The couple is buried at Dalbeattie Churchyard.
