Samani, Hokkaido

Samani (様似町; -chou) is a town located in Samani District, Hidaka, Hokkaido, Japan.
As of 2004, the town has an estimated population of 5,770 and a density of 15.84 persons per km². The total area is 364.33 km².
Samani is at the end of the Wanman train that runs from Tomakomai. Wanman is onomatopoeia for "one man", because the single car engine only has a single driver.
One of the best known sites in Samani is the Oya-ko parents-and-child rocks that sit just off shore. It is known by this name because it is a formation of two larger rocks and smaller one. Oya-ko is nesting site for cormorants and other sea birds.
Near Samani is Mount Apoi (アポイ岳). Mount Apoi is a popular climb for school classes in the region.
