From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sam Fatu is a professional wrestler best known under the name of The Tonga Kid. He was also known as Tama, as which he teamed with partner Haku as The Islanders, and as Samoan Savage, as which he teamed with his brother Solofa Fatu as the The Samoan Swat Team (he was later replaced by Samula Anoai).

Sam Fatu would go on to work with Solofa Fatu (now known as Kishi) in his promotion Nu-Wrestling Evolution.

Another brother is Umaga (Eddie Fatu).

When he was younger he dreamed of being a baseball player, but around the age of 15 he changed his mind as he watched relatives and friends who were involved in professional wrestling. He started working at a local zoo to help him become better at speaking English. He got into the wrestling business around 1987 and remained active until 1992. He then opened up a bar in West Philadelphia.

Sam Fatu starred as "Tonga Tom" in the 1987 movie "Body Slam", along with Dirk Benedict and Roddy Piper.
