Samuel "Sam" Jonah Dingle is a fictional character on the ITV soap opera Emmerdale. He is played by James Hooton.

[edit] About Sam

Sam is one of Zak and Nellie Dingle's children. He has learning difficulties and is mentally slow, but is a very nice person. He has frequently been in trouble with the law, usually for theft, and spent time in prison for a hit-and-run incident with Edna Birch. He often gets work as a dogsbody, first for Eric Pollard and then Sadie King. He is bullied for his slow nature and his own half-brother Cain is particularly nasty to him.

In 2005 he got involved in a relationship with Alice Wilson and left Emmerdale with her to start life on their own farm. They both returned to Emmerdale shortly after, when Sam discovered that Alice was pregnant. In April 2006, he married Alice after finding out that she had terminal cancer. Early 2006, Alice gave birth to their son Samson via Caesarean so that Alice would be able to start her cancer treatment. The baby boy was named Samson after Sam got the idea when Belle mistook "Sam's son" as his name.

On 31 July 2006, Sam helped his wife Alice Dingle to die after suffering from cancer.
