Samuel 'Sam' Aston (b. 1993, North-West England, UK) has played Chesney Brown in the UK soap opera Coronation Street since 2003.
Sam was born in 1993. His parents are Janet and Richard. He has eight siblings, two of whom have also starred in Coronation Street. He is also an uncle to his sister Sarah's children. He has red hair and freckles, and lives in Lancashire.
Prior to playing Chesney, Sam went to drama school. He starred in an advertisement when he was six. He acted in Where the Heart Is and The Bill, before landing the role of Chesney and has since been on Stars in Their Eyes and acted in Oliver Twist.
Sam has said of Bruce Jones, who plays his on screen step-father Les: 'He's nice. He swears a lot though!'
Jennie McAlpine, who plays Sam's on-screen sister Fiz said that the scene in which Cilla arrived after having walked out on Chesney and Les, dragged Chesney and dog Schmichael down the street, and Chesney begged Les 'Please let me stay with you, uncle Les' was 'so emotional...his fantastic acting made everyone want to cry; it made me want to cry, and I'm supposed to know he's only acting, it's not real!'
In 2004, Sam was named Best Newcomer at the National Television Awards. When accepting the award, he thanked his agent Carol Godby. The following year, Sam won Best Dramatic Performance for a Young Actor or Actress at the British Soap Awards.
In October 2005, Sam presented the Queen with a bunch of flowers at a party to celebrate 50 years of ITV1. The Queen told Sam she was a fan of Coronation Street, and asked if his real parents were as bad to him as his screen mum Cilla (played by Wendi Peters). He recently appeared as Horrid Henry at the Children's Party At The Palace, an all-star event to celebrate the Queen's 80th birthday.
Sam is Britain's highest paid child soap star.[citation needed]
Sam used to be babysat by Hollyoaks star Chris Fountain [1]
