From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The sami languages are spoken in northern parts of Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia. The Sami languages is an official minority language of Sweden. However, the Sami languages are not necessary mutually intelligible.
In 2001 there were eleven known Sami languages. The largest six of these have standard written languages; three are not used in writing, and fewer than 50 people speak them. The two others are already extinct, one since 2003 and one since the 19th century.
