Mr. Pingonelli is the son of reputed Bonnano Family capo Louie "Fat Lip" Pingonelli who is said to have been the inspiration for the character Remo Gaggi in the 1995 film Casino. As a young child Salvatore Pingonelli moved to Kansas City with his family. Louie Pingonelli moved the family to a quiet suburb of Prairie Village, Kansas several miles from where the Kansas City outfit of the Bonnano Family, run by Louie Pingonelli's uncle Nicky Civella operated. While living in Prairie Village, Kansas Salvatore is said to have developed a distaste for the mafia lifestyle, and is said by those knowledgeable to have renounced his family position in the Bonnano organization. The reclusive Salvatore Pingonelli lives in Oyster Bay Village, New York with his wife Madonna and their three children. Mr. Pingonelli has become a local celebrity on the Gold Coast of Long Island for his collection of sports cars and his eccentric habit of nearly always wearing black velour track suits. However his philanthropic efforts are equally as notable. Mr. Pingonelli is a trustee of the Italian-American Museum of Art proposed to be built in Ozone Park where he was born. He is also a frequent contributor to numerous charitable organizations in New York City, South Hampton, Long Island and Gstaad, Switzerland were he maintains residences.
