Saluda cymbals

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Saluda cymbals are a relatively new manufacturer of high-quality percussion instruments, particularly snare drums and hand crafted cymbals.

Their operations are run at 2651 Shop Road, Columbia, South Carolina. All drum works are held in this facility but only about 20% of the cymbal works is at this facility. This facility is where the cymbal is finished. Headquarters for Saluda and the primary cymbal plant still remain a mystery but rumors have that it is held in a small, nearby town of North, South Carolina. This is the facility that supposedly only made the drums.

The company was formed in May, 1999. They had a vision to begin their cymbal company in 1997 to recreate the sounds of handmade cymbals of 45 years previously, and to exploit what was seen as an available market niche for new and unique sounds. The first prototype cymbal was released in November 1999, and the first cymbals offered for sale were released the following December.

Saluda is quickly becoming a highly rated cymbal company. Having started by experimenting with new alloys, their current cymbal product lineup is entirely made of the traditional bell bronze of 20% tin. Saluda also is one of the few cymbal companies to offer to customized cymbals to the customer's requirements. Saluda could be the most underrated cymbal company but rumors have it they will be releasing some attention getters very soon.

Saluda currently has 6 cymbal series, but many are due out in 2006:

  • Mist Hybrid, the top of the line, with a brilliant finish top and traditional finish bottom. These cymbals have what Saluda calls a Sparkling Brilliant finish with thousands of glitters in the finish.

The Sparkling Brilliant finish is available on all Brilliant models, except the Mist Brilliant series which is optional with this type of finish.

  • Mist Brilliant, also considered their top of the line. These are finished 100% in a hand polished surface for a beautiful shine.
  • Voodoo EX Brilliant, another rumor has it this will change names shortly to drop the religious Voodoo name. All 'Voodoo' names will be removed very shortly.
  • Voodoo EX, this series and the Voodoo EX Brilliant series are accent cymbals, made to widen your sound spectrum for your cymbal set up. These are all very lively cymbals, dynamic and versatile.
  • Voodoo Brilliant, again the Voodoo name is unofficially gone and it will not have the same name as the Voodoo EX series.
  • Voodoo, all Voodoo and Voodoo Brilliant chinas are rich, pure china type cymbals with an explosive pop, quick decay and very complex tone. These can be customized into many different shapes and sounds

They also offer custom vent designs on chinas, splashes and crash cymbals.
