Salt River (Michigan)

The Salt River is a river that drains into Lake Saint Clair in Macomb County Michigan. The river empties in central Chesterfield Township and its head waters are in Richmond Michigan about 10 miles to the north. The river is approximately 25 miles long and quites shallow within a few miles from the lake. Its greatest depth is 6 feet. The part of the river by Lake Saint Clair is lined with marinas and turns into a large marsh and forsted area soon after that. Further north the river runs through light residential areas and farmlands. Most of the rivers watershed is rural with suburban lands near the lake. THe river is slow flowing and quite swampy in most parts.
