A graduate of Brigham Young University, she along with BYU classmate Sandi Griffiths joined the The Lawrence Welk Show in 1968 as the singing act of Sandi & Salli, which was very popular on the show until late-1972, when Sally left to pursue a solo career on Broadway.

Among her accomplishments since her days on the Welk show include appearances on the Mike Douglas, Dinah Shore, Jim Nabors and Joey Bishop television shows. She has also done several commercials as well.

In 1974, she married Clay Hart, a country singer who was on the Welk show from 1968 to 1975, and shortly afterwards she and Clay also started singing together professionally; often as opening acts for performers such as Red Skelton, Barbara Mandrell, Juliet Prowse and Mel Tillis. The Harts have also released several albums, owned a tote bag business featuring cartoon characters from Warner Brothers, and have hosted their own show on TNN called Remodeling & Decorating Today.

In recent years, Sally along with Clay, have toured across the midwestern United States with their fellow Welk stars for a series of concert dates known as Forever Blowing Bubbles. These concerts have been well attended and received positive reviews from fans.

Today, the Harts makes their home in Seattle, Washington. They are also the proud "parents" of a poodle named Sadie.
