Salisbury House (Canada)

Salisbury House is a restaurant chain in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada It is better known as "Sals" and it is considered a Winnipeg institution.

It was founded in downtown Winnipeg in 1931 by Ralph Erwin and was named for the Salisbury steak. Erwin, who disliked the name hamburger, named his burger a “Nip" (which he considered was a nip of Salisbury steak).

The restaurant has 2o locations in Winnipeg and surrounding communities. It employs over 500 people and has $16 million in sales. It is owned by local investors including Burton Cummings.

Salisbury House is the only restaurant situated on a bridge, the Esplanade Riel.
