Salford Priors

Salford Priors is a village about six miles south west of Alcester, Warwickshire, UK. It is found on the Warwickshire border with Worcestershire. The village is also only 10 miles away from the popular tourist town of Stratford Upon Avon and the River Avon runs near the it. The population of the Salford Priors ward (including the hamlets of Abbott's Salford and Dunnington) is 1,492 according to the United Kingdom Census 2001.
The manor of Salford Priors belonged, first to Evesham Abbey, then to Kenilworth Priory (hence its name) until the Dissolution. Its history is traceable back to A.D. 708. It is now a restaurant. The village used to have a train station, opened in September 1866 and on the Redditch to Ashchurch Line. However the station close in September 1963 thanks to the nationwide station closures of 'Doctor' Richard Beeching.
The local school is Salford Priors Church of England School which takes admits children from the ages of 5-11. There are two pubs (The Queens Head Public House and The Bell Inn) and a Post Office in the village. For Gliding enthusiasts there is an airfield 2 miles from Salford Priors where national and international gliding competitions are hosted.
