Salesian School (Chertsey)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Salesian School, Chertsey, England was started in the 1920s and was originally 2 single-sex education Roman Catholic grammar school on 2 sites maintained by the Salesian Fathers and Sisters.

In 1971 they merged to form one comprehensive school but maintained the single-sex education on separate sites. It has a sixth form college.

In 1983 it became a coeducational school with pupils located on a site according to their age. The school has children of all abilities from 11-18 years. Lower school and Sixth Form primarily attend one site while PE and DT classes are held in the other. Students walk between sites to go to different classes, particularly during the school's lunch break.

In 2004 the Fusion Project was started to combine the two halves of the school. The first stage, a new technology block, was finished in October of the same year. They have now also completed the second phase, which is an all weather sports facility. The next stage of the Fusion Project is to build some more class rooms, attached to the technology block, and then keep going from there.

Nowadays there are currently more than 1,200 pupils in this school and is heavily over-subscribed.
