Salaca

The Salaca (Estonian Salatsi) is a river in Latvia, which flows into the Gulf of Riga. Salaca is with a length of 90 km. Its source is lake Burtnieks in North-Latvia, and there are riverbanks of Devonian geologic period sandstone on some places near the beginning of river. Latvia lists 10 recognized salmon rivers, with the Salaca River at the top of the list.
The small city Salacgriva with its port is located at the mouth of the Salaca river. Salacgriva is 13 km from the Latvian-Estonian border.
