Sakuran is a manga series created by Moyoco Anno. The manga is about a young girl who becomes a tayu or oiran courtesan.
In 2006, a live-action movie adaptation was created. The film will be released in 2007. The upcoming movie, Sakuran, features Anna Tsuchiya as a young girl in the Yoshiwara district of Edo-era Japan. Shiina Ringo is the Music Director. Based on the manga of the same name, it is the first movie to be directed by photographer Mika Ninagawa. In the trailer, a new rendition of Tokyo Jihen's song 'Yume no Ato' is featured. The movie will be released nationwide in Japan on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2007.
