Saint Patricks Government College

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Saint Patricks Government College is one of the oldest colleges in the city of Karachi in Pakistan. It was nationalized in the early Seventies by the Populist government of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. Ever since it had been a hot bed of Leftist and Progressive student organizations until the late Eighties when their influence started to weaken thanks to the emergence of ethnic and Nationalist student groups such as the All Pakistan Mohajir Students Federation.

Saint Patricks remained to be a haven for progressive and Liberal student groups and activities even during Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq's Islamist dictatorship.

Recently the liberal government under General Pervez Musharraf has decided to privatize many formeraly nationalized colleges including Saint Patricks.
