Saint Luis Beltrán
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Saint Luis Beltrán was born in Valencia, Spain in 1526 and died there on October 9, 1581. He joined the Dominican Order in 1544 and was ordained in 1547. For thirty years, he served as master of the novices. He exhibited heroic charity during a major plague in 1557. Though he was an eloquent and noted preacher, he was inspired with the hope of martyrdom, and, to this end, he requested to be sent to his order's missions in Central America. His labors in Panama and Colombia were astonishingly successful, but, after seven years, he was recalled to Spain to assume a position of responsibility in the order.
