[edit] History
The earliest human activity in the area, from the Lower Palaeolithic, was some of the first early prehistoric evidence ever identified and the town gave its name to the Acheulean industry of stone tool users in Europe, Africa and Asia.
In the first century AD the Romans settled the area and a monastery was built in St Acheul during the Middle Ages. Saint Ulphia was a hermit here during the 8th century.
