Portal:Saints
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In the Church of Rome the term "saint" refers to any person in Heaven—however, since the 10th century, the title "Saint" is only given to persons who have been officially recognized (canonized) by the Church. Those given the title informally, prior to the establishment of the canonization process, are generally still considered both "saints" and "Saints."
Canonization in the Church of England and in the Orthodox Church is less formal than is the Catholic. Moreover, in the Orthodox Church, lack of official recognition in no way prevents someone from being a full-fledged saint.
This portal covers saints recognized by at least one Christian denomination.
