[edit] History

Sahara TV launched in 2000 as an Indian General Entertainment Channel. In 2003, Sahara TV was rechristened as Sahara Manoranjan. In October 10, 2004, the channel recristened as Sahara One with the launch of the Sahara Sangeet Awards held in London. Today, Sahara One Television is a female-focused channel that provides a strong mix of engrossing fiction and is popular for its star-studded mega events, dramas, children's programming, thrillers, feature films, and film-based programmes. Even as it provides a variety of shows across all the above genres, Sahara One Television is also focusing on providing an entertaining and engrossing portrayal of strong, independent thinking Indian women in its soaps and serials. These include Rani from Woh Rehne Waali Mehlon Ki, Shyamlee from Hare Kkaanch Ki Choodiyaan, and Kituu from Kituu Sabb Jaantii Hai, who have become household names among television viewers in India. The channel re-launched Ramesh Sippy’s Buniyaad on January 2, 2006, the show that laid the foundation for the Indian television industry. Other Sahara One Television shows that cater to varied audiences include the popular numerology show Bolein Ssitare, with top Indian numerologist Sanjay B Jumaani, and Chacha Chaudhary, the entertaining adaptation of the popular comic series for kids. With a strong focus on quality content and innovative programming and promotions, Sahara One Television is poised for a position of strength amongst the mainstream Hindi General Entertainment Channels in India.

Sahara One Television is part of the umbrella brand Sahara One Media And Entertainment Ltd, whose other businesses include Sahara One Motion Pictures, which is India’s largest player in the motion pictures business.
