Sahara India Pariwar is among India's largest private enterprises . The company has interests in media, airlines (see Air Sahara) and housing. It employs more than 50000 people, the largest by any private Indian company [citation needed] . Since the group is rather secretive,an accurate account of its annual turnover or profits are not available. The company is headed by Subroto Roy. Subroto Roy was away from the public eye for over 6 months and was believed to have suffered a debilitating stroke which had severely impaired his speech. After intense media speculation appeared for a press conference and clarified questions about his health and the group's health.

The group has commercial interests across a range of sectors. Sahara India owns one of the private commercial airlines in India, cable television, media and insurance providers. Sahara India is also a major developer of up-market residential and tourism developments in India.
The group is not in the pink of financial health. The airlines is bleeding money and the group has engaged a consultant to hive off its airlines business[citation needed].
