Sagaro Stakes

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Sagaro Stakes is a Group 3 flat horse race in the United Kingdom for four-year-old and above thoroughbreds run over a distance of 2 miles 45 yards (3,260 metres) at Ascot Racecourse in late April or early May.

The race was run at Lingfield Park while Ascot was closed for redevelopment in 2005 and 2006, and it was run at Newmarket’s Rowley Mile course in 1998 and 2001. It is named after Sagaro, the only horse to win the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot on three occasions. The race was first run in 1984 - the planned first running in 1983 was abandoned due to waterlogging.
