Safe (baseball)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In baseball, being safe, is reaching a base with out getting out. It means they got to a base without being tagged on an optional run, or the baseman didn't tag the base of a forced run. Whether the runner was safe is often a controversial call, as the baseman can often be very close to the plate or the runner. It can also change the course of the game. the sign for being safe is waving your outstreched arms in opposite directions, one going left, the other right. This sign is given by the umpire.
