Sacred Heart Academy (New York)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sacred Heart Academy is a prepatory school located on Cathedral Avenue, in Hempstead, New York. Sacred Heart Academy is a single-sex school for girls, grades 9 to 12. The official school colors of Sacred Heart are red and gold.

Uniform Sacred Heart is unique in the sense that each grade level has their own uniform. There are some similarites. Sophmores and freshmen have the same blazer (currently maroon) while the juniors and seniors are given a navy blazer. Students are allowed to decorate their blazers with pins, provided it does not distract the class. The school uniform is a white blouse, a knee-length skirt, school-issued socks and either oxfords or penny loafers. A student is required to wear her blazer when in the hall, but may take it off during class. The exception to the 'blazer rule' is if a student chooses to wear the school-issued grey sweater. Starting on November 1, continuing to April 1 each year, students are allowed to wear white shirts underneath their blouses. Failure to comply in uniforms may lead to a detention.

Red and Gold Each year, Sacred Heart Academy has a cheer/dance/aerobic/spirit event, on Martin Luther King Jr. weekend, supporting the school and promoting spirit. "Red and Gold" takes place at Hofstra, with over a thousand viewers. Tryouts take place in early November, but students often start wearing ribbons or beads with the colors of red and gold. Everyone in S.H.A. are encouraged to join Entrance or are allowed to join Spirit, which introduces the teams. The other teams are Aerobics, who exercise to music, Cheer, Dance and Kickline. Videos are made of this and can be purchase.
