Sab

Sab, by Gertrudis Gomez de Avellaneda, is an anti-slavery novel that also attacks the institution of marriage. Sab is the main character in the novel. He is a mulato slave that is in love with Carlota, the white daughter of his master. The pain and struggle of his secret passion for Carlota leads Sab to his own death, which occurs the same hour as Carlota's wedding with Enrique.
