As of January 2005, the school's computer lab was officially opened in accordance with the Smart School Programme.

There are six labs prepared for the students, three for Science and three special labs for Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

-In April 2006, Subang Jaya was hit by a freak storm which damaged much of the school's property. School the next day was canceled. However, the students were asked to come and clean up the mess.

-The school buildings were originally white in colour. However, as of 2005, the school was repainted - much to the students dismay and objection - pink . Many have said that the color spoils the mood.The school was painted without any help from the Ministry of education.The money spent was collected during the Gala Nite of SMKSS17

-The principal, Mr. Ahmad bin Akim and the academic assistant, Pn. Azmah binti Yusuf are currently under strict medical attention.

-11 years ago,when SMK SS 17 was first opened, it had a reputation of being a school of delinquencies.Over the years, SMK SS 17 proved to be a school of excellence.

-the academic assistant of SMK SS 17,Pn. Azmah binti Yusuf has recovered.
