[edit] About

S-Endz, also known as Turi (born February 11, 1987 in Birmingham, England) is a British Asian rapper/vocalist/producer and member of the critically acclaimed UK rap/rock/bhangra band Swami. Their music contains influences from artists as diverse as Nirvana, 2Pac and KoЯn.

Turi is also an affiliate of the late rapper Tupac Shakur's final group, Tha Havenotz, along with Tupac's "little brother" rapper Candyman 187, Shock G and Money B of the rap group Digital Underground, Storm (formerly of The Outlawz) and many more.

[edit] History

S-Endz grew up in the culturally diverse area of Handsworth, Birmingham - an area that has over the years spawned many popular musical acts including Steel Pulse, and S-Endz' first cousin Apache Indian. Apache broke the UK mainstream pop audience with a blend of bhangra and reggae produced by his cousins Simon "Subs" Duggal and Diamond "DJ Swami" Duggal. Subs & DJ Swami would later form the band Swami, which S-Endz would join as a vocalist in 2004.

[edit] Career

S-Endz contributed rap vocals to many of the tracks on the 2004 Swami release DesiRock and all of the tracks on the 2005 remixed rap-rock version of the album, entitled SWAMI released on Sony BMG India. This album became a significant milestone for British Asian music, winning many awards. S-Endz himself was awarded with a "Rowdiest MC" award by BBC Radio 1 DJ's Bobby Friction & Nihal in 2005 - largely thanks to his notorious on-stage antics and reputation as a hyperactive and emotional performer prone to crowd-surfing, stage-diving and climbing on anything and everything possible.

When asked to describe his musical style in a 2005 interview with UKBhangra.com [1], S-Endz replied:

"My musical style as a vocalist and performer is like the bastard child of DMX and Courtney Love that was babysat by Slipknot and taught to create music by Prince, Kurt Cobain and Tupac Shakur and then genetically modified with the soul of Jason Voorhees while he’s wielding a chainsaw."

Summer 2006 saw the release of the Bollywood blockbuster movie "Corporate". S-Endz & DJ Swami were personally asked to remix the movie's title track "O Sikander", (sang by Bollywood superstars Kailesh Kher and Sapna Mukherjee) and did so for the movies' soundtrack . The track became one of the BBC Asian Network's most requested tracks of 2006, and featured uptempo rap verses from S-Endz over a dance-rock fusion beat produced by DJ Swami.

The soccer videogame "Fifa World Cup 2006" was also released in Summer 2006, featuring the Swami track "DesiRock" in the games' soundtrack. It remained at the top of videogame charts all around the world for several weeks.

Additionally, the British movie "Mischief Night", released in Fall 2006 also contained the track "DesiRock" on its soundtrack. These 3 events significantly raised Swami's profile.

In August 2006, rumors began circulating that S-Endz was no longer a part of Swami. However, these rumors have not been substantiated, and most likely spread from the formation of S-Endz' new project under the name Turi, and cryptic messages written on his website. According to Turi, he took this name from the name of the protaganist in a favorite book of his. It is not known exactly what book. As of November 2006, S-Endz/Turi is still performing with Swami at live gigs.

On the 14th September 2006, two tracks written, produced and performed by Turi were premiered on the BBC Asian Network in an exclusive live performance for Bobby Friction's show. According to Turi's website, the two tracks are called "Welcome 2 The New Wave", and "In The Haze". Currently, no release information has been given for either two songs.

On the 9th November 2006, it was revealed via Turi's official website that the first single from the upcoming EP is entitled "Give It 2 Me", and is produced by Simon "Subs" Duggal. It also states that the song will be playlisted on radio stations within a matter of weeks.
