Sørum is a municipality in the county of Akershus, Norway. To the north it borders Ullensaker, to the east Nes and Aurskog-Høland, i the south to Fet and to the west to Skedsmo og Gjerdrum.

[edit] The name

The municipality (originally the parish) is named after the old farm Sørum (Norse Suđrheimr), since the first church was built here. The first element is suđr 'southern', the last element is heimr m 'home, homestead, farm'.

[edit] Coat-of-arms

The coat-of-arms is from modern times (1981), but it is based upon a Middle Age coat-of-arms of a nobleman from the municipality. It shows a red rose.
