Sør-Vågsøy

Sør-Vågsøy is a former municipality in Sogn og Fjordane county, Norway, originally a part of Selje formannskapsdistrikt.
On January 1, 1910 Sør- and Nord-Vågsøy was separated from Selje to form own municipalities. Sør-Vågsøy had a population of 1517 at this point. On July 1, 1921 the farm Blesrød in Nord-Vågsøy was moved to Sør-Vågsøy.
On January 1, 1964 the new municipality of Vågsøy was created, by merging Sør-Vågsøy, Nord-Vågsøy as well as parts of Davik and Selje. Before the merger Sør-Vågsøy had a population of 3926.
Today Sør-Vågsøy refers to the southern part of Vågsøy, where the villages Holvik, Vågsvåg, Torskangerpoll, Færestrand and Oppedal are located.
