Sörnäinen metro station
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sörnäinen metro station (Finnish Sörnäisten metroasema / Swedish Metrostationen Sörnäs) is a station on the Helsinki Metro. It serves the central Helsinki districts of Sörnäinen and Kallio. When heading east, Sörnäinen is the last station that is actually underground - the eastern part of the metro service is mostly above ground (part of Vuosaari line is also underground)
The station was opened on 1 September 1984, designed by Jouko Kontio and Seppo Kilpiä. It is located at a distance of approximately 0.928 kilometres from Hakaniemi metro station, and 2.946 kilometres from Kulosaari metro station. The station is situated at a depth of 25 metres below ground level (3m below sea level).
From 1 January 2007 onwards, the next station to the east after Sörnäinen will be the new Kalasatama metro station.
