Sölden

Sölden is a municipality in the Ötztal valley of Tyrol, Austria. With 467 km², it is the largest municipality in the country. The population of 3449 (as of 2003) is outnumbered by tourists of which 15.000 can be accommodated.

The main village of Sölden is at 1368 m above sea level. The highest peak is the Wildspitze which is at 3768m the second highest mountain in Austria after the Großglockner.

Sölden is also a popular ski resort. The first Alpine Skiing World Cup race of the year usually takes place there. However, the scheduled race for 2006 was cancelled due to weather.
