São João da Aliança

São João da Aliança is a municipality in the state of Goiás, Brazil. It is located north of Brasília and Formosa, Goiás on the highway that leads to Alto Paraíso de Goiás. The population in 2000 was 2,147 and the elevation was 986. The total area of the municipality was 3,339.5 kmª.

Crossed by GO-118, São João d´Aliança has become important touristically since the 1990s as a stopping off point for those on their way to visit the National Park of the Chapada dos Veadeiros. There are several waterfalls, like that of Mingau, trails and rivers, like the Cachoeirinha and the Tocantinzinho, which helps to form the huge reservoir called Serra da Mesa.

The economy is based on subsistence farming, cattle raising, large-scale agricultural production of soybeans and rice, and services.
