All information about the Lithuanian grand dukes before Mindaugas, is taken from the Lithuanian chronicles of the 16th century, and is difficult to verify as historically accurate, as are tales about the Venetian Prince Palemon's travels from Italy to Lithuania in the first century after Christ. Rostislav and his son Ringaudas probably never existed. From Mindaugas' family, only his older brother, Dausprungas, is mentioned in the 1219 peace treaty with Galicia.
