Before signing with WWE he wrestled a few shows for TNA. Before being signed to Deep South, Ryan wrestled for many feds mostly in Florida. He was the NWA-Sunray Heavyweight Champion before having to abandon the belt to go to Deep South. He has wrestled many of the top indy names in Florida.

On the June 22, 2006 DSW TV Tapings, O'Reilly defeated Derek Neikirk to become the Deep South Heavyweight Champion.
