[edit] 1997-2004: SOiL
Ryan McCombs entered into the aggressive rock band SOiL, where he took the position of lead vocalist. The band struggled to reach international status [citation needed], releasing one album and one EP: El Chupacabra and Throttle Junkies. After two unsuccessful attempts, the band reached immediate success with their next CD, Scars, in 2001. The name echoes the harsh, emotional lyrical content SOiL grew to encompass as its mark. Partially, their success can be allotted to their first use of a major record label, DRT Entertainment. In 2003, the band released Re•de•fine, their second major album. Soon after, Ryan McCombs left the band stating that he had failed to be a father and wanted to quit to become a better father. According to an interview with Shaun Glass he broke down crying on the phone, declaring that he was bad father, when he told SOiL of his quit. Soon after serious internal conflict was exposed.[1]
[edit] 2005-Present: Drowning Pool
Ryan left SOiL to be with his family. He was gone for a year. His family and most notably his wife convinced him to continue singing. When he got back into singing, SOiL had found a new lead singer and his wife told him if he was to be with a band make sure it was good, trusting people. At around this time, Drowning Pool singer Jason Jones left to join Christian rock band A.M. Conspiracy. Rumours spread regarding the new singer of Drowning Pool's identity. Drowning Pool announced the new vocalist's identity would be released at Ozzfest in Dallas, Texas; on August 25, 2005. On July 20, 2005, the information was leaked to website SMNNews, and the newspaper's release was confirmed by both Drowning Pool and Ryan McCombs the next week. Ryan McCombs, as a member of the band, is working on their next studio album, and touring, most notably entertaining troops serving in Iraq.[citation needed]
Currently, Ryan McCombs is married and has two sons. He lives in Dunkirk, Indiana.[citation needed]
