Ryan Cross (born October 6, 1979) is a rugby league player who plays for the Sydney Roosters in the National Rugby League competition. Cross switched football codes when he signed with the rugby union Super 14 side the Western Force.
Cross, a product of Waverly College was a member of the Australian Schoolboys in both 1996 and 1997, some of his team mates being Matt Dunning, Adam Freier, Alister Campbell, David Lyons, George Smith, Phil Waugh, Steve Kefu, Sam Harris and Craig Wing. In 1998 he went on to play rugby league. He made his debut for the Sydney Roosters on 17 April in 1998 in a match against the Manly club at Aussie Stadium. His earlier years in league were troubled by a knee injury in 2001 as well as a subsequent knee reconstruction. He was absent for most of the 2002 season, where the Sydney Roosters eventually won the premiership on the night of his birthday. However, in 2003, he finished the season as the Roosters' top try scorer. On 14 June 2006, after a period of speculation and rumors he was returning to union, he signed with the Western Force.
His brother Clay Cross is a notable shot put athlete, and his father Paul played rugby league in the 1966 Grand Final. [1]
