Ry Ry's Song

Ry Ry's Song was a 2000 single released by the band Glassjaw through Roadrunner Records with release limited to the UK. Tracks 1 and 2 can also be found on the full-length album Everything you ever wanted to know about silence.

"Good evening children. To me, this release that you are holding in your very hands is more of a collection of songs (some new, some old and one borrowed) than merely a single. This collection reflects on a few moments from the last two years of our lives touched upon in our full length "Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Silence".

Firstly, "Ry Ry's Song" which is a tribute to our closest friends, discusses the drama and unsavoriness of an ill-fated relationship that he was a part of. We as a band have always been drawn to this piece due to the contrast between its dark, disheartening subject matter and its lively. "Teen Dance party" sound.

Next we move to "Siberian Kiss," an outspoken track about the concluding few months of a relationship in which I was involved in.

We’ve also included "Modern Love Story," a cover tune from seminal New York straight edge hardcore outfit YOUTH OF TODAY. A band that not only bore a heavy influence on our music but also on our personal lives as well. Glassjaw’s drummer at the time of this recording was Sammy Siegler whom actually served in YOUTH OF TODAY as well as a slew of positive, straight edge punk rock bands emerging from New York City in the late 80’s. On this cover track we actually had YOUTH OF TODAY/SHELTER vocalist Ray Cappo, come in and sing it with me.

Lastly, we have a piece entitled "Convectuoso". A very raw and primal version of a newer song that was recorded live one evening while in the studio during the mixing stages of the record. It is a product which stands entirely independent of "Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Silence" record because it was written and recorded in a different time period. This song portrays my coming of age into adulthood and my greatest adversary: myself.

Thank you for your time and patience. Most importantly, thanks to the spirit of punk rock and roll for the unbridled angst that brought forth the entity known as Glassjaw in the first place. Live boldly and walk the shining path of righteousness."
