Rutherglen Glencairn F.C.
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Rutherglen Glencairn Football Club are a Scottish football (soccer) club based in Rutherglen, (in the South Lanarkshire local authority area, but part of the Glasgow conurbation). Nicknamed the Glens and formed in 1896, they are based at Southcroft Park which is in the line of the proposed extension to the M74 motorway and due for demolition. Due to this they are banned from redeveloping their stadium. They are also banned from developing the section of the ground that contained a grandstand which burnt down in 1975 (which also meant they had to borrow strips from Queen's Park F.C. for the following weeks Scottish Junior Cup final) as the ground is contaminated. The club is currently seeking an alternative venue to play their home games at.
Currently competing in the West Region of the Scottish Junior Football Association, they wear black and white strips (uniforms) not dissimilar in design to those of Queen's Park F.C. (hence why they borrowed strips from them in 1975). Previously they were one of the bigger junior clubs in their region, but they have not been so successful in recent years.
