Russell Howarth (born 27 March 1982, in Leeds) is an English footballer, he is currently a goalkeeper at Bradford City.
[edit] History
Howarth started his career at York City, but as he began to get called up for the England under-20 squad in 2002, larger clubs such as Everton F.C. became interested in buying him, he played there on a trial spell.
A move came, but it was not to be to a Premiership side, instead Tranmere Rovers snapped up Howarth from York on a £25,000 trasfer. Initially Howarth played as Tranmere's number 1, but ended up losing his place to John Achterberg and never regained it.
He would move back to Yorkshire in 2005 as Colin Todd signed the young keeper to Bradford City where he currently plays.
In September of 2006 Howarth agreed to move back to York City on a month loan deal, after the team were left without their first choice keeper Tom Evans due to a sending off incident. The Conference National however, blocked the loan deal for reason's unknown, and thus it did not go through.
[edit] Trivia
- Howarth has also had trial spells as Newcastle United, Sunderland FC and Wolverhampton Wanderers.[1]
